GoosanderHaving seen the report of goosander at Cheddar reservoiir on the SOS message board, I was delighted to find a pair of them when I went for a look this morning.  The male was seemingly a little bolder than the female and I managed a rather indifferent photograph.  Unfortunately, my pleasure at having another new species photographed turned to dismay when I noticed that he appears to have a length of fishing line coming from his mouth.  Iassume that he has swallowed a pike bait and is now just waiting for a rather miserable end.  Having said that, he was still swimming about in a normal looking manner but I didn't observe him diving.

The female looked in good form as far as I could tell without a scope.

Another bird that was flitting about near enough for a shot was a grey wagtail.  I rather like this picture with the approaching spray from the small waves at the edge of the reservoir.

I popped down to Catcott Lows on my way home.  The three ibis are still in evidence about half way between the hide and the main road but I haven't seen them close to the edge of that field on the last few visits.  Lots of ducks and lapwings in evidence - I didn't see any raptors myself but heard that a peregrine had put up the ducks a little earlier in the day.
