OverviewFamily - Pipits and wagtails (Motacillidae) The yellow wagtail is a small graceful yellow and green bird, with a medium-length tail, and slender black legs. It spends much time walking or running on the ground. As its name implies, it wags its tail from time to time. It is a summer visitor, migrating to winter in Africa. It has been in decline since at least the 1980s, most likely due to loss of habitat for breeding and feeding, making it a Red List species. CommentThis bird was on Tealham Moor on the Somerset Levels in April 2010 in company with two other birds. Unfortunately it was a very long way off hence the poor photos. Despite this, it was clearly visible if you looked for an unusually bright dandelion that seemed to be moving! Update - The rest of the photos were added on 21/4/2010 when I managed to get rather closer and to observe some feeding behaviour. |
